In 2006 schools could candidate with a project to receive several Laptops. Our school participate and receive 29 laptops.
The laptop were Dell with Intel processor at 1,8 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80 GB hard disc, with wireless integrated…this computer came with dual boot: windows XP and Alinex (Portuguese version of GNU liNex). I think in our school no one ever use it in linux. Teacher and most students just don´t like Linux.
3 year ago I try to install the solution Linux Terminal Server Project, but without success, because no one like it!!! Sad
Now the ministry of education has other project for students and teacher to acquire laptops. Many students and teacher has one laptop.
What’s the advantages for the teachers? Teacher can work with their on computer, if they are at school they work in any place, can use them in class by presenting their work (powerpoint, smart notebook, among others).

For students: let see their opinions

2 Austrian Ministry: pilot project 1996 on Tue Nov 11, 2008 10:03 am

As early as 1996, we had our first laptop project. The Ministry of Education bought 32 computers. The devices were very expensive (for the minsitry Smile ). Meanwhile, the students buy their own portable computers. 5 of our 13 classes are notebook classes.

We use mostly Windows. We are well know at Microsoft. With Knoppix (Debian Linux based) I write manuscripts.

What I read about your schools is very impresive. Shocked
As far as I know about my school, there are some IT teachers who use laptops during the lessons. Some laptops belong to our school and the number of students and teachers used them is limited. But to be honest I will ask the haedmaster and IT teachers about more details on this aspect. bounce
In our school there are a lot of computer laboratories (probably even more than 12 with about 350 computers - I will check these info). Most labs are well equipped with Microsoft Windows but some of them have Mac OS.
For further info I need other teachers ' help. study
There is also one computer lab occupied mostly by teachers of English (with students of course sunny ). I like coming there and show students how to use different sites to improve their language skills.
However, I dream of my own laptop. This year I wanted to buy one but I gave up because at school usually I work in my language classroom and when it is necessary I can borrow it.
Anyway, after reading your posts I think that I should follow the pages of the Ministry of Education and try to participate in different competitions for teachers.
thank you for ideas. rendeer
