How can the disabled use computers? Are there any applications which help the disabled to adjust to a new digital age?

Technology didn't forgot about disabled people. There are many computers designed specialy for disabled.
Blind people can use computers with keyboard which have Braille's keys and listen to a speech-synthesis system witch read evrything what is on the screen of the computer. For deaf people designers designed
special system where are visual alerts. People witch haven't got arms can use coputers with voice-recognition system or use computers with secial keyboard for foots.

There are many different applications and special devices which help people with disabilities to live in a new digital age.

Blind users use speech synthesizers which convert screen contents into spoken words, Braille keyboards with keys where characters on them are represented by raised dots, particular printers which emboss Braille on pages and specific computer mouses.

Deaf people don't have such a hassle as the blind when it comes to working with computers, because most of the IT work can be done without using audio signals. They only have to use particular applications which present visual alerts to them when something goes wrong.

Motor-impaired people rely on a wide range of various pointers to work with computers. The most common used among them is the eye-gaze system, which tracks user's pupils to operate mouse cursor. Different one, also quite popular, is the voice recognition system which (obviously) recognizes and follows user's orders. Those two are widely used, because they allow almost any physical disabled person to operate computer.

Computer for the disabled has been made specially for requirements of persons handicapped, who can't use standard computer in order to the lack of full physical proficiency. Due to that these persons can develop their interests, even work with computer.

How does it work? Surely many persons, who hear "computer for the handicapped", think about very complicated devices, which cost huge amount of money. However, the reality is quite different - suffice several modifications in standard computer set, in order to be useful for the disabled. Here I present different solutions in this case.

Braille monitor is assigned for the blind, which can display each text in the Braille alphabet. There is also speech synthesis program, which can read that text in case of such requirement. For persons, who can not use keyboard or mouse, there is available special keyboard with only one button. With its assistance you can write by pointing letters in special program on the desktop .

As you can see, due to that fix-ups the disability, don't have to be impossibility of development in many domains.

In my school I knew a blind boy who uses a "personalized" laptop. It has a braille monitor and it works with only the Linux shell.

I've never seen a person typing on the keyboard and reading the outputs as fast as that boy! He was very impressive!
